Do you have an Economy 7 meter?

Do you currently have an economy 7 deal for your electricity?

How do I find out if I have an economy 7 deal?

This can usually be found on your energy bill. If you're unsure, contact your energy supplier.

What is Economy 7?

Economy 7 is an electricity only tariff where you pay different rates depending on the time you use your energy. You need a special meter which shows a day and night rate. The amount of energy used during the economy 7 hours (usually 1am to 8am) is presented as a percentage on your electricity meter.

You CAN still save money by switching if you have an Economy 7 tariff. Though these tariffs are only worth really worth considering if you have storage heaters, water tanks, work shifts or are able to use appliances on timers.

Economy 10 is a similar type of tariff but with different low rate hours, but unfortunately it's difficult to easily compare these tariffs, so for an electricity switch you'll need to ring round suppliers to find the best quote. You can do a gas switch in the normal way.

Your usage

Do you know how much energy you use?
Most Accurate ResultsLeast Accurate Results

How much gas or electricity do you use?

You can find this out by looking at your energy bill. Remember you usually use more gas in the winter months, so for the most accurate comparison, add up the kWhs you've used over the past year and enter an annual figure. Alternatively ring your current supplier and it should be able to tell you.

We need this info because the best deal for you depends on how much energy you use.

Note: For total accuracy after price changes, it's best to enter new usage figures in Kilowatt Hours. It's no biggie, but if you enter the amount paid we must make assumptions about the rate you were on when those bills were racked up, so it's less accurate.

Filter out deals?

If you filter out deals that don't include cashback you'll only see deals that give extra cashback on top.

Otherwise you'll see a full market comparison though we might not be able to monitor and track switches to some of those tariffs.

Paying by monthly direct debit is cheapest

Fixed monthly direct debit payments, where you pay a fixed estimate each month, save you 5-10%, as companies are sure you won't default and they earn interest on any over-payments. Credits are refunded at the end of the year, but you're entitled to ask for it back at anytime.

Now let's keep you on a cheap deal permanently...

Whether you switch now or not, we'll alert you when your tariff becomes pricey (and they can do quite quickly). Choose a higher figure for fewer alerts.

When shall we alert you?

Can't be bothered to switch for a £25 saving? Just tell us what you will switch for and we'll only email when you can save that amount.

Don't want to give us your details?

We need your details to be able to check your tariff, monitor the competition and tell you when it's a good time to switch. We won't send you more info than you've asked for, ever. If you still don't want to give us your details, you can do a simple comparison via one of the comparison sites like Energyhelpline*, MoneySup*, uSwitch*.
